Go to this link to the WV legislative web page http://www.legis.state.wv.us/Bill_Status/bill_status.cfm and type in the bill number to find out the status and the latest version of the language - look for Com Amendments. You'll see two of them listed now - the one to change 4 to 3 feet and the other appears to reinstate sub sec (a) that requires near to the right as practicable - we may be able to get this amended back in Judiciary -or when (if) it gets to the Senate - so don't sweat over this right now, the important thing is to keep the bill moving and get it over to the Senate where we'll have the rest of the session to improve it if possible..
Assuming the bill gets out of Judiciary Committee, it will then be read (announced) on the floor of the House for three days (Mon-Wed) Second reading (Tuesday) allows amendments from any Delegate on the floor of the chamber. Third reading they all vote it up or down and hopefully send it to the Senate!
Attached is a PDF doc with the phones and e-mails of all the Judiciary members. Remember it's the decision of the Chair, Delegate Miley, whether or not to place our bill on their (very packed) agenda. Anyone who might have a relationship with him or another committee member should contact the same and implore them to ask the chair to run the bill.
Then we need the votes on the committee to pass it out unscathed.
One amendment that failed yesterday was a proposal to limit groups of cyclists to no more than six on the road with a distance of at least 300 feet in between groups! This is part of the danger of opening the code to make things better - sometimes it can make things worse!

Thanks, Gary. Can you send us the names and phone numbers of the Judiciary members? Beyond Judiciary what other hoops does the bill have to clear before it becomes law? Is there some place on line that we can see the changes to it as it proceeds?
