Transportation Alternatives Map Updates Meeting - Doodle Poll

Hey folks, I thought we had a productive meeting regarding the WVDOH TAP Scope of Work last week. As we stated in the meeting, we plan to get the WVDOH an updated map with reviewed and updated SLM/Sign/Bus Shelter locations within 1 month, which would be by July 16th. I propose that we do our best to meet this week to: - review our locations, - determine feasibility/appropriateness of each, - add new locations in place of removed locations, - and determine when and how we'll visit the locations for final inclusion on map. BMUFL

Hi Derek, After yesterday's meeting with WVDOT, I've been reminiscing about all the work we've done to get to this point where we might actually get the sharrows and BMUFL signs on the roads and I want to congratulate YOU for getting us here. I wonder if anyone realizes the amount of painstaking and perfectionist work you put into getting every sharrow and sign in the right place on all those maps and then creating all those individual location drawings and then revising them after the BB reviewed them. Then, you took the initiative to write the grant proposal and to coordinate the BB members and David Bruffy and the folks at WVDOT to create a winning proposal. Your initiative, knowledge, persistence and obsession with detail brought us to this success and I for one congratulate you! Frank

Improve University Avenue corridor

If you have ideas for improving the University Avenue corridor, please go to http://universityavenuecorridor.mindmixer.com/topics/all create an account, mark up the map and describe your ideas. The Morgantown Monongalia MPO in cooperation with the City of Morgantown and WVU, has initiated the University Avenue Complete Streets corridor study (from WV 7 (Don Knotts Blvd.) to WV 705 (Patteson Dr.)). The purpose of this study is to look at physical improvements to this important corridor including Complete Streets applications, economic development, intersection laneage, safety and multimodal improvements. The corridor width extends down to Beechurst and up to the top of Wiles Hill. The contractor performing the study is very bicycling friendly and bicycling knowledgeable. In fact, one of the project managers is a Master League Cycling Instructor who co-founded the organization BikeSmart-GrowSmart and has taught hundreds of people to ride safely in traffic. Bicyclists had a major impact on the Green Bag Rd. redesign because more cyclists than others, e.g. truckers, businesses, residents showed up for the public meetings and showed the MPO what needs to be done to make it better accommodate bicyclists. We can do the same on the University Avenue corridor. There will be public meetings in Sept-Oct. Let's get our ideas submitted so they'll be considered by the MPO, City, contractor and the public. 4ank

Positive Spin Celebration Schedule - June 28

Attached is the schedule for Positive Spin's 10th Anniversary and Annual Meeting on June 28th. Please disperse to other interested parties. There are many on this list who probably don't know this, but the Green Space Coalition is back in action after a 10 year break. Many stakeholders are attending their meetings, and many interesting developments are under-way. Ella Belling of MRTC will be speaking about GSC during the "Positive Biking Influences" part of the celebration. Chip will be speaking on behalf of the BB, Bill Austin on behalf of MPO, and Bill Foster on behalf of CRC. -Jonathan

Much thanks to Derek especially for the mapping done many years ago and everyone else that kept with it and pushed along. FYI, the meeting with the DOH, Jeff Mikorski and Damien Davis went well yesterday. The DOH representatives, especially our project manager, seemed very enthusiastic about our project and are 100% behind us. Stairs to Ruby Hospital from the Evansdale area

I'm wanting to encourage the use of the "bike tire track" or groove idea installed next to a set of stairs, to better accommodate bicycle riders who want to walk their bikes up the Stairs. I have a developer who is willing to consider. Who of you has experience or resources for explaining the concept and designing (specs for) such an item? I'm looking for an approach for how to install this. Bike infrastructure!
