Bicycle Board Members,
Following is a summary of Bicycle Board Meeting on January 8, 2015. The next bicycle meeting will be on February 5 (Thursday).
@Emily: we can be flexible about the time of the meeting on Thursday. It can start at any time later than 6:00 PM if only it can fit into your schedule. For instance, 7:30 PM?
Attendee:
Frank Gmeindl, Marilyn Newcome, Chip Wamsley, Derek Springston, Damien Davis, Jing Zhang, Matt McCabe, Bill Kawecki, Jenny Selin
1. MUB Mail Cycling Insert
* Revise contents and design of the insert. The revised insert will be sent to the board for review next week.
* Sponsor-search team: Chip (leader), Derek, Marilyn, Jing. Selin and Bill are willing to assist when needed.
* Identified potential sponsors: Mon Hospital, WVU Hospital, local banks, insurance companies (All-State, State Farm, Progressive.). It is helpful to find out companies that have done similar sponsorship in the past.
* Inserts can be distributed by zip codes, if needed.
* Tentatively, the time line is
o January: locate sponsors
o February: Coordinate and go through the process of producing the insert
o March: Product transmitted to MUB for delivery
o April-May: Delivery
* Explore alternative distribution channels in the future, including electric format delivery, sponsor initiated distribution, Facebook, City's website, in-person hardcopy handover, newspaper/magazine, events.
2. Application for Funding in 2015
* Team: Derek (leader), Chip, Jing, and two other former participants.
* Review the funding matrix to identify opportunities
3. Cycling Instructor Training
* The dates for the upcoming League Cycling Instructor seminar in Pittsburgh are April 10-12, 2015.
* Emily and Jing will attend the seminar to become instructors. They will teach cycling courses in the fall. The training will funded by All-State Funds.
* The Board is looking for one additional qualified candidate to join the coming seminar in Pittsburgh.
4. Update on MPO Projects and Activities
* MPO has contracted consulting firms to conduct two studies. They are University Ave Complete Street Corridor Study and I-70 Access Study. It is encouraged that the board member to participate the public outreach process of these two studies.
* Don Knotts Blvd Complete Street Conceptual Layout has been reviewed by the board.
5. Developing Ideas on Advancing Bicycle Board in 2015
* This topic will be discussed in the February meeting (February 5th ).
* The Board needs a renewal through re-defining its goals and objectives and re-constructing its scheme accordingly.
6. Other Business
* Damien is preparing a $20,000 to $30,000 budget proposal for ped/bike improvements. (from All-State Grants)
