Human powered monorail

Good morning, Saw this on gizmag this morning. I've been thinking about this idea for a long time. This guy's actually built it. It would be very cool to have it as an adjunct to our PRT since it could be hung above it without taking any additional ground space. On hills the descending riders could pull the climbing ones (or the energy could be stored on the ground to be used when needed). All bikes are inherently unstable, they are stabilized by the rider (usually). He is correct that this system makes the riders' safety much less rider/motorist-dependent and I really want one. If it weren't in New Zealand I'd already be on my way to take the ride. Bicycle Board Members, Attached is the feedback to the City's application for the Bicycle Friendly Community award. I doubt the feedback has been sent to anybody but me although the application was signed by the Mayor, City Manager, and MPO Executive Director. The Bicycle Board should probably decide at the next meeting what to do with this. Bicycle Board: recommendation on center line on railtrail?

Does anyone have a record that the BB recommended to the Traffic Commission a center line on the railtrail? I cannot find any such recommendation in my records, but perhaps I am missing some files. Background: center lines have appeared and one citizen has been told that this was the call of the BB. I doubt this and I want the record to be clear. Greg

Field Trip Anyone?

Good morning, On July 15 I'll be in Washington DC at the end of riding from Pittsburgh, PA for the National Bicycle Greenway Mayors' Relay. I'll be received by city officials, and in the past that's included DC Bike Coordinator Jim Sebastian (whom I've met on this ride 2 previous years). It may be possible for me to arrange a tour of their bikeshare system which is just coming online this month. Would any of the bike board members be interested in coming up that day to join me for a tour if I can arrange it? Note that this is tentative right now. I should also explain that I have a selfish motive here - I'll be biking all the way from Morgantown and I'm looking to bum a ride back. I'll be happy to pay my share for gas and expenses. Thanks. Interesting new folding bike

Good morning, This folding bike has just been introduced by Pacific Cycles. In addition to every other cool aspect the drivetrain is completely enclosed. Bike supply vending machine

Good morning, I saw this on one of the news sites I read. I'll be in Madison Sat and try to get over to check it out. The shop is one of 5 in the UW campus area owned by Budget Bicycles. There are a total of about 10 (BIG) shops within a 1 mi sq area in Madison and it looks like they all do a pretty good business. http://bicycledesign.blogspot.com/2008/07/trek-stop.html Now if the vending machine could just spit out bikes too....
