I have work and then headed out of town that day, but a cool idea!

It might be productive to set up a parking space or two and teach bike maintenance and perhaps some verbal bicycling training. Anyone interested?

Check out the tweet section of wvu cdt website, for examples from last year. I just put them up to generate interest.
It is easy to just set up a space rogue and feed the meter as Judy K. did last year.
It is also great for whoever wants to plan ahead to get in on a designated space. Let me know if you want in on a designated space. One form has been submitted and it could perhaps be amended or another compiled.
People appreciate the spirit of this in our downtown.
The more the merrier.

We had a nice start on this last year. The idea was to create park spaces. These could fit the theme of any of your groups.
Landscape architecture had a parking and an alley space last year that we had permission for. it was converted into park space with seating and greenery by students and faculty.
The most fun was when we all left one of the spaces and people just stopped in and sat down and got comfortable.
I think seating is what is missing in parts of our downtown and waterfront areas.
The student association of landscape architects is planning this again this year.
Last year, There was also one rogue space up across from the dairy queen that Judy Keirig set up as an art spot with materials and seating. She just set up and kept the meter plugged for about four hours mid-day. She hung up the art in the spot and passers by enjoyed it. She has now moved out of state as many of you know...
Morgantown was registered with an international group who kept track of who was celebrating this day.
City staff and Mainstreet had concerns last year, as well as someone from fire office, a warden? Are trying to vet the permission spaces better this year.
Concerns were Particularly safety of participants and business parking, we used a space in front of an empty storefront. We also looked at angles from side streets and ended up mid-block trying to avoid being hit by cars.

Sounds like fun and reminds me of my sister's community, Belfast, ME, which has homemade sculptures like the ones shown in the Parkersburg flyer on every downtown corner! Of course, they don't have hoards of college students roaming the streets at nights, so the sculptures have stayed in pretty good shape!. Still, I love this idea. Would you like it advertised on Green Morgantown in terms of volunteers? If you organize a meeting or gathering to discuss let me know...
I am driving out of town for September unfortunately to repair my rental cottage...my winter renter caused a lot of damage...or I would be able to help more. I am in town in October only two weekends but it would be the best month for sure!

Thank-you, Ella! There is real potential in emulating Parkersburg here in Morgantown. If we do it this year, we may need to push it into October, but I will bring it up to the PS Board. In regards to the bike art, we found a person with an art degree recently that may be able to help in this respect.

Hi everyone Just trying to connect a few people in this rebel cause or "occupy" movement. First heard about it from the Pedestrian Board……
