You'll find the agenda and some read-aheads attached. - The current member list is included to get your wheels turning about where we need to go for members (spoiler: many places!). Keep in mind that we'll probably be losing two voting members in the next month. - The scooter memo will probably be drafted and distributed again before Thursday's meeting. Although my name is at the end of the document, I'll have you know that Frank wrote this entire thing based on all our comments. Request for Permission: Elections in January?

Dear Board, First, please send agenda items for next week's meeting by this Thursday. Second, fill out this poll <https://doodle.com/poll/v78kc2h55si7ki8d>, please. Will you consent to elections in January? More info below: Consider this email an impromptu, virtual meeting where we vote on something: I propose that we hold elections for all leadership positions in our January meeting. For some time I've indicated to many of you that I believe we would benefit from new leadership. Setting a deadline for elections might help encourage us to find viable candidates in a swift manner. Additionally, our secretary has recently taken a position that requires him to tender his resignation past the December meeting (congrats on the job, Brian!). I will not be running again for the chair position, though I do intend to remain involved with the board if y'all will have me! I believe we should put the vice chair up for a vote too, but I also think we should allow Chip to run for it again (if he wants to). Finally, I will suggest in our meeting next week that we schedule elections every January. Right now, I would like your permission to host elections in January. If you grant this, I will begin advertising for new members and leadership via social, print, and other media. I recognize that there are a variety of other tactics that we could use to address our impending leadership gap, so if you do vote "no" on my proposal in the doodle poll, please send me an email and let me know if you have other ideas. I just returned from Austin Texas where these things were being used a lot. The Univ. of Texas campus is very near downtown like our main campus is here. Folks of all ages were using them, but mostly students. They were being used on sidewalks as well although I am not sure I would recommend it as the students were not always respectful of pedestrians. Interesting idea however. Cheap, quiet and quick,and takes up little parking area. You might check with the City of Austin and see how they transitioned to their use before moving on this request. Jim Craig

One thought we've had is to judge the interest of trail, outdoor/bike retail, advocacy, race event, and other groups for "group" memberships to serve as policy advisors to our group. We are structured as a 501(c)(3) with the IRS so we can lobby up to 20% of our effort, but may have to change to a 501(c)(4) "Social Welfare Organization" if we want to focus more on lobbying. I'm asking if you all will complete a very brief online poll and also share it with your statewide networks to assess statewide interest in expanded membership as described below. It's literally 5 or 6 questions, taking ~5 minutes at most, I hope. bike rack at post office

Hello Drew and all, Yesterday at the post office I witnessed a cyclist who was not allowed to bring his bike inside the Post Office but also had no place to lock it up outside the post office. He did just prop it up against the building and wait in line. I know that the post office leases the space from a private developer and that they are unlikely to be willing to install a bike rack even if it was given to them. Just the same, I thought I would relay to the Bike Board the need and perhaps you have some ideas of how to get one put in there. September Minutes / Outstanding Projects, October Meeting Postponed, Call for New Members

Hello Board! We had a lovely meeting in September. For a large part of that meeting, Frank facilitated a brainstorming session about our Bike Spine Network map. See minutes and detailed notes about that session attached. Send comments or corrections to the minutes to briankleary(a)gmail.com Chip and I decided to postpone our October general meeting at least one week, and we may end up canceling it altogether. In place of the general meeting next week, we urge you all to organize help advance some of the projects below. Perhaps you could even gather a subgroup and meet during our usual meeting time? 1) Develop the spine network review process (needs a leader) 2) Set a date and plan the sharrows / bike lane celebration (contact Chip) 3) Help draft the bike/ped facilities closure policy (contact me) 4) Explore areas of town underrepresented by spine network (contact Chip) 5) Help recruit new members to the board (contact me) This last one is vitally important at this juncture. We've graduated quite a few members over the past year and we are likely to graduate a couple more soon. We need an influx of new (or returning) members willing to spearhead projects and help keep our momentum. The MMMPO is about to hire a consultant for a bike/ped plan update and that will mean that A LOT of things will be asked of the board. If you have any ideas about how we can best grow (or keep) our membership, please send them my way! Maybe we need to have a recruitment fair?
