Bicycle Board Members, I've gathered together for your reading entertainment the article Same Roads, Same Right, Same Rules and the letters to the editor that it spawned. (See attached.) Dennis Bolyard's 5/26 letter saying that cyclists can't have rights unless we pay property tax, license tax and buy mandatory insurance: http://ee.dominionpost.com/Repository/ml.asp?Ref=RFBvc3QvMjAxMC8wNS8yNiNBcj… 3. My response (that DP didn't publish) to Bolyard's 5/26 letter. See 20100527FGRespnseToBolyard in attached. I say the law, not Bolyard gives us rights and that the cost of collecting property tax, license fee and mandatory insurance would probably exceed revenue. 4. Ballard's excellent 6/7 response to Bolyard's 5/26 letter. Today, Sunday June 27, I see a letter to the editor (Sharing the road starts with paying your share by Mary Smith) that supports Mr. Bolyard's position so I wonder: did you even receive my May 27 letter? If so, why are you publishing anti-bicycling letters and stifling pro-bicycling letters? Both Mr. Bolyard's and Ms. Smith's letters suggest taking away from cyclists rights that law explicitly gives them. Meeting this Thursday

Bicycle Board Members, Please find attached, a suggested agenda for this Thursday's Bicycle Board meeting. Only Derek, Alice and Chip have notified me that they won't be attending so we should have a good turnout. Also attached are the minutes of last month's meeting and the highlights of the education project. In preparation for the meeting, please review these documents; especially the education highlights because we need some help and will be looking for the help on Thursday. Positive Spin is closing its doors

Good afternoon, The owners of the building that Positive Spin has operated in since 2005 have gone into bankruptcy and will be auctioned off in the next few weeks. In addition the floor in our office room has collapsed and the owners have decided not to repair it or give us other space to use. We have been looking for another space to locate to for several years but none has been forthcoming. We are closing our doors until we can find suitable space, and adequate board members and volunteers so I don't have to do so much myself. We will close for July, at which time we'll assess whether we're going to relocate or liquidate. The primary reason for this message is to let you know that I will not have time to prepare a proposal concerning youth cycling classes as I had intended. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your support and patronage. If you know of a space that would be suitable for our future operation, and volunteers who would like to help keep things going please send them our way. Thank you. MPO conference dates changed to 10/26-28

I am tentatively going to meet with Bill at 11 am this Wednesday June 23 at Mountaineer Station to discuss plans. Any BB member is welcome to join us. Bicycle Board Members, As you know we were rained out of last weekend's shooting of the bicycling education video spots. While we had 10 people committed to show up last Sunday, after postponing it to this coming Sunday, 1 person responded that they wouldn't be able to make it, 2 people responded that they weren't sure if they could make it and only 1 person, Cat Kinzer, whom I don't even know reaffirmed his/her commitment to show up. If we're only going to have 1 person show up, I need to know ASAP so the 3-person video crew doesn't waste a trip down here. Please let me know ASAP if you're coming or not and what role, i.e. cyclist or motorist you will play. Bicycle Board members, Thanks to Ryan, Chip, Alice, Betsy, Derek, Nick and Cat for responding to my plea for video spot actors! The attached file contains the schedule for the video shots. The last column shows who volunteered to perform, what time they'll be there and what role they want to play. I think we have the necessary minimum but more would be good for diversity among the 7 spots. If you haven't already volunteered, please let me know by 3:00 pm today. As you can see from the attached, most people haven't selected a time. Of course, it would be best if you could hang out with us all day but if you want to say what times you'll be there, please reply-all with that. Meeting w/Mgtn Police

Bicycle Board Members, I met this morning with Morgantown Special Services Unit Sgt. J. Robinson and Officer Steve Bennett (bicycle police officer). They are totally supportive of our education initiatives. They will be ready to work with us this coming weekend. They are also ready to have a police officer appear on tape doing whatever we direct them to do. Aaron, where and when will we meet? Police officer availability for this weekend is as follows: Saturday 10 am - 8 pm; Steve Bennett 8 am - 6 pm; Rob Balderson, Jimmy Smith Sunday 10 am - 8 pm; Steve Bennett Patrol cars and officers can work in participation with on-going tasks but they need to know exactly when they're needed.
