Note: McKinley's press statements says his bill would facilitate stronger state regulation of coal ash, and that the scientific reports show that coal ash is safe. He is quoting from scientific reports over a decade old, as more recent data clearly document that coal ash is hazardous. (Using out-dated science is typical of a side that is attempting to confuse the issue when current science is not on their side.) And nothing in the current version of the bill actually does anything to promote stronger state rules, or to promote ash recycling. The only actual teeth in the bill is the section that prohibits EPA from regulating ash as a hazardous waste.
Be prepared to answer with these points, via press statements, letters to the editor, calls from reporters, etc, because I am sure McKinley will want to ramp up the PR for his side.
