There appear to be a couple misplaced zeroes here. Peabody stock was more than $100 in 2011 (not $1,000), and Arch Coal stock was between $300-$400 in 2011 (not $3,600). But the drop is still dramatic- a more than 99 percent drop in stock price for Arch- more than 90 percent in the last year alone. As Merle Haggard sang, “…… like a snowball headed for hell.”

Good catch. The numbers in that news story did seem pretty dramatic. Even if it is not a 99.9 % drop, a 90 % drop should be a warning to our state leaders.
