To be clear, Mike told us that the Club does not and will not accept money from Chesapeake or any other gas company. This omitted a reference to the past, so could be considered misleading, but he did not lie. Then he called and clarified the full story. The Club turned down an additional $30 million that was part of the original deal the Carl Pope made when he was gallivanting around with Aubrey McClendon, Chesapeake CEO.

As son as we asked the right question - about in the past - we got an honest answer from Mike Brune - he and SC came completely clean about misguided donation acceptance in the past.

Let's quit all the parsing of every syllable. The statement above is flatly false. Brune said we are not and will not. Subsequently he added the info that we had in the past, and that that had been a mistake.
