RE: Possible press release, to be scheduled for October 12th.
1. We need to get the various diverse groups working on the TrAIL line together in print, as in a press release that we all approve. Each group can then add two paragraphs with their own contact information.
2. This can be released in Charleston and Morgantown simultaneously on Friday, October 12th, in time to be included in the Saturday newspapers.
3. On Saturday, President Bill Clinton will speak in Charleston before the annual state Democratic Party dinner, a huge event. [Clinton is now on record as working with Al Gore on global climate change.]
4. We could picket this event, just for publicity, as one option. {My wife and I have tickets to attend}
5. The connection between the proposed new power line and global warming is this: If TrAIL line is built it will give long-life to old power plants that are a primary source of carbon dioxide, the most important greenhouse gas.
6. Possible groups to be included: Sierra Club, Ohio Valley Environmental Council, WV Environmental Council, MonValley Clean Air Coalition, Triune-Halleck Community Association, Ft. Martin Community Association, Laurel Run Community Association, WV Highlands Conservancy, Interfaith Global Climate Change Coalition, .............etc.
7. Please forward this message to all possible groups that might wish to join in so we can make a decision within the next two days......... as to whether to prepare drafts, with a final decision to be made on Tuesday, October 9th, as to which groups are included and which not................
