Here is yet another issue. This is a new permit application for a facility that wants to use landfill methane as an energy source, and to claim the carbon credits under cap and trade for that methane reduction. The difficulty is that the Sierra Club recently announced a policy shift to oppose landfill gas applications because, such facilities manage the landfill to maximize methane production, but are unable to collect it efficiently. As such, the facilities may actually allow 80 % of the methane to escape into the atmosphere.
The draft permit should be available on the DEP web page later today. let me know if anyone wants to tackle this one.

Methane reduction facility....... this is a new one on me; maybe they will be burining methane to make carbon dioxide, just to reduce the greenhouse effect?
