The Monongahela River is flowing from right to left, from West Virginia. The Cheat River is coming out of the background and under the bridge, Pt. Marion being across and to the right. Notice the obvious interface on the water. The Cheat River is clear and blue. The Monongahela River is contaminated, yellow - brown, with both suspended and dissolved solids. Could it be that sediments in the Cheat River settle out in Cheat Lake, so the discharge looks pretty clean. The dams on the Mon do not retain water long enough for settling, so it looks bad.
I am not defending the horrors of soil erosion and sedimentation, but it might be interesting to look at the Cheat from above Cheat Lake.
Does this make sense, or am I all wet? Anyone have more info or insight? Inquiring minds want to know!
