EPA TO TURN CONTAMINATED SITES INTO RENEWABLE ENERGY PRODUCING SITES
Using a novel approach (the renewable energy interactive mapping tool), EPA has identified thousands of properties that could potentially host solar, wind or biomass energy production facilities and has listed each property's attributes for energy redevelopment.? These properties have varying levels of historic contamination, some already addressed, while others are still to be fully investigated. The appropriate steps to address the contamination at these properties will vary from site to site, depending on the nature of the contamination and intended reuse.? EPA RELEASES ITS 2008 REPORT ON THE ENVIRONMENT
EPA released its "2008 Report on the Environment: Highlights of National Trends," a new and important resource to better understand trends in the nation's health and environment. The new report is intended for a general audience and summarizes highlights of the "EPA's 2008 Report on the Environment" which was released in May, and provided more scientific and technical information. Together the two reports inform about EPA's strategic planning process with the best available scientific information. EPA also launched a new Web site that allows the user to search the full technical report for specific trends in air, water, and land at http://www.epa.gov/roe??
