So many bad bills, the House Judiciary couldn’t get through them all on Monday. So … still time to MAKE SOME NOISE and let your Legislators know that HB 4016 is a bad bill. Expect it to be back on the Judiciary agenda Wednesday, Jan 24. See Lyn's email below for contact information.

There are so many bad bills on the Jan. 22 agenda of the House Judiciary Committee, it is difficult to select the worst! We are focusing on HB4016 because it constitutes voter suppression and is in direct contradiction to the LWVWV policy priority of Strengthening Democracy.
HB 4016 https://www.wvlegislature.gov/Bill_Status/bills_text.cfm?billdoc=hb4016%20intr.htm&yr=2024&sesstype=RS&i=4016 prohibits the delivery of unsolicited absentee ballot applications to any person who has not specifically requested one from the county clerk. This offensive bill makes it a crime for any person or organization to distribute *absentee ballot applications*. That is applications, NOT ballots. HB 4016 will have a chilling effect on those who work to encourage voting because it will prohibit the distribution of a public document available for download from the Secretary of State’s website.
MAKE SOME NOISE!!!!!! Tell your legislators (especially if they are on the Judiciary Committee) to say NO to HR 4016. And tell them NOW as the committee is meeting Monday, Jan 22.
