Here are two bills addressing solar energy that deserve our attention. The LWVWV legislative priority is to Create a Sustainable Future by supporting legislation that provides opportunities for West Virginians to access a diverse energy grid. HB 4834 is consistent with this priority; HB 5131 is not.
MAKE SOME NOISE and contact members of the House Energy Committee to support HB 4834 and to oppose HB 5131
HB 4834 Broadens availability of solar energy production to small consumers with inadequate roof space or excessive shade, and provides a utility bill credit for a subscriber's proportionate share.
HB 5131 This bill changes the formula for crediting a consumer's electric bill for solar energy generated by the consumer's solar panels, thereby reducing the amount of the credit.
