- Feds, wind sector agree to create conservation
plan for 8 states
The
American Wind Energy Association and wind-power companies have
signed a memorandum of understanding with the U.S. Fish and
Wildlife Service to create a habitat-conservation plan for
protected species that may be at risk from wind projects in
eight states. "It is the industry's expectation that development
of the regional HCP will streamline the permitting process,
allowing effective conservation of wildlife and easing the
service's administrative burden while also allowing for more
wind energy to be deployed nationally," said John Anderson,
director of siting policy for AWEA. DomesticFuel.com

- Rep. Upton: Environmental goals should go along
with economic ones
The
goal of keeping the country's air and water clean does not need
to go against the preservation of jobs and improvement of the
economy, writes House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman
Fred Upton, R-Mich. Republicans are working on an energy policy
that would reconcile economic and environmental objectives,
Upton says. "We can do that with three sensible goals: stopping
government policies that are driving up energy prices, expanding
U.S. energy production to lower costs and create more jobs, and
promoting an 'all of the above' strategy to increase all forms
of U.S. energy," he writes. Politico (Washington, D.C.) (4/15)
