I had read the blogs - by and large they were right about comparing apples (employment in the wind sector) to oranges (employment as coal miners, not employment in the coal sector).
Despite that, it was still very encouraging.
How about this statistic: "Vestas installs a new wind turbine every four hours." Included in an ad in Newsweek's Commemorative Inaugural Edition.

Go to the Fortune blog that Jim cited and read the comments. I
believe there are other blogs linked there as well.

Shows an interesting trend, continues to point out the decrease in
mining jobs. Others have picked this story up, and there has been a
negative response primarily pointing out that the numbers are not comparing
apples to apples; ie, the wind jobs figure apparently includes "indirect"
jobs, while the mining jobs figure does not. I am not yet comfortable
using this as a factoid.

Check out this story -- Fortune Magazine in
Jan.
Opening sentence: "Here’s a talking point in the green jobs
debate: The wind industry now employs more people than coal mining
in the United States."
Jayme Hill in VA picked it
up.
