UK company HomeSun is offering free solar panels to homes with south-facing roofs in return for receiving the Government’s feed-in-tariff.
The company says it will provide and install 2.5 kWh- 4 kWh systems, which typically cost £11,000-15,000 for free on homes with optimally sited and sized roofs.
Households will be able to benefit from the free electricity generated to lower their household energy bills, while HomeSun will receive the feed-in tariff over its 25 year guaranteed lifetime.
At any time, households will be able to buy the system from HomeSun on a straightline depreciation basis and start receiving the feed-in tariff themselves.
Homes with less optimal positions can also benefit from the scheme, but for a one-off fee of £500 and a £5 per month maintenance and repair charge.
HomeSun says it plans to install 100,000 systems over the next three years.
“Our SolarShare offer is all about making renewable energy more affordable to more people,” says Daniel Green, from HomeSun. “We believe it is precisely the kind of enterprise-inspired solution that the Government is looking for to drive the green agenda.”
