Friends of the Appalachian Mountains,
Here are some big upcoming events and conferences to help stop mountaintop removal coal mining in Appalachia and combat the impacts of climate change - our movement continues to grow and spread and we are now working with allies all across the country.
If you want to be a part of the most vibrant, fastest-growing environmental campaign in the country, please join us - and attend one (or more) of these events. The people in this campaign are very friendly and we hope to see you there!

This weekend - Oct 7-9 The Heartwood Reunion, Paoli IN. Workshops, speakers and entertainment in a lovely wooded setting in southern Indiana, about one hour from Louisville. Great food - wonderful place - highly recommended. Camping and low-cost cabins are available. To register or for more info, click here
Also this weekend - Oct 7-9 The Changing of the Leaves Festival atop Larry Gibson's famous Kayford Mountain near Charleston West Virginia. This is a free event - See mountaintop removal at Ground Zero and hear good old mountain music. Potluck dinner and camping. For more information click here - for driving directions, go to google and search for "directions to Kayford Mountain." This is the best place to see mountaintop removal and you can meet the famous "Mountain Keeper" Larry Gibson.
There is also a work party this weekend (Oct 7-9) in Rock Creek, WV to prepare for the upcoming Mountain Justice Fall Summit. Volunteers and tools are needed - If you can help, please email David: mthegorilla@gmail.com

Oct 20-23 - The Appalachian Public Interest Environmental Law Conference (APIEL)
Knoxville TN at the UT Law School. This is gonna be big, with well-known speakers and an impressive lineup of noted environmental experts and field trips to learn about the life cycle of coal in Tennessee. Highly recommended. Click here for more info and to register. Don't miss this!
Oct 28-30 - The Mountain Justice Fall Summit: Mountain Justice, Coal River Mountain Watch, and RAMPS Campaign are teaming up to present the 2011 Mountain Justice Fall Summit in Rock Creek Hollow, near Whitesville in southern WV. Learn organizing and direct action skills in the heart of the southern West Virginia mountains. See mountaintop removal and meet local West Virginia residents and activists fighting to save their mountains.

Nov 4-6 - The Southeast Student Renewable Energy Conference (SSREC) at UNC-Asheville in North Carolina. Student-run and youth-led. This is always a great conference and a lot of fun. Click here for more info.
Nov 11-13 Mountain Justice Annual Meeting. Plans are still in the works, but it will be in Eggleston VA near Blacksburg. Check the Mountain Justice website in a few weeks - we will have more details posted.
Nov 11-13 Kentucky Sierra Club Annual Meeting, Kentucky Dam Village State Park. Great speakers and entertainment again this year. More info
Nov 19-26 - The Caravan in Support of Indigenous Communities On The Front Lines Of Resistance at Big Mountain, Black Mesa, Arizona. We are supporting our friends and allies in the indigenous communities who are opposing the deadly impacts of coal mining. For more information, click here.
