Subject: [Coal Volunteers List] New website and Sierra Magazine story launching on Wednesday: "Cost of Coal" photo series
To: #Coal-Volunteers <
coal-volunteers-list@sierraclub.org>
Coal team,
I wanted to give you a quick heads up about an exciting project that many folks have been working on for the past few months.
Tomorrow morning we'll be announcing a new website called "Cost of Coal," which features powerful photos showing the effects of coal pollution on everyday Americans. The website compliments the "Cost of Coal" cover story and 18-page spread in Sierra Magazine, which should be arriving in mailboxes this week. (Note: Please wait to tweet or spread the word about this project until after 9:30 eastern on Wednesday morning).
To create this photo spread, we teamed up with award winning photographer Ami Vitale. Ami visited communities in West Virginia, Michigan, and Nevada to follow the life-cycle of coal -- from mountaintop removal mining, to coal burning, to coal ash waste disposal -- and documented compelling stories of families who deal with coal pollution in their daily lives. If we had the resources we would send Ami to every city where we have a coal fight to capture the amazing work you all are doing to move the country off coal. However, we hope that these three regions highlight some of our iconic fights and will get more people interested in joining our campaign, no matter where they are.
I've attached the Sierra Magazine story to this email. You'll be able to check out the full website with photo slideshows and videos tomorrow morning at
www.sierraclub.org/costofcoal.
A big shout out goes to the Sierra Magazine team and our web team for putting this whole project together. Please let me know if you have any questions and we'll send around a link to the press release, blog post and website when they are live on Wednesday morning.
Thanks!
Orli
