Karen and friends

Be sure and get to meet and hear Debra Williams from Alaska.

There are two very important points among many that she will make...or can in conversation.

FIRST: THE COST NOW! One of the most important points that she makes eminently clear is that global warming is already a serious and rapidly growing financial cost to all of us...TO ALL OF US NOW...NOT IN THE FUTURE...NOW!.

One of her slides shows show the Corps of Engineers has predicted a $300,000,000, that's 300 MILLION Dollars, to move just ONE Alaskan Village that has to be moved because of encroaching global warming impacts.  It is not optional...but mandatory that it be moved.

That village's habitat has been there for those natives, FOR FOUR THOUSAND YEARS...AND NOW DUE TO GLOBAL WARMING...MUST BE MOVED.

It is ONE of 120 such villages in Alaska, some a lot smaller, but some the same size.

Those dollars will come out of your pocket and mine...THINK ABOUT IT AS YOU FILE YOUR TAX RETURNS FOR FEDERAL TAX DOLLARS THAT YOU AND I OWE NEXT WEEK.

SECOND---COMING LITIGATION:  A first ever law suit is being put together with the intention of suing the coal companies, the oil companies and the power companies, maybe others too, (I forgot who else), suing these sources of greenhouse gasses for causing the damage and relocation expenses of these villages.

We  need to learn how this can be applied to Wets Virginia.  The Utilities can put up a legal defense that they have been operating legally...all approved by the EPA. But getting them into court could slow the coal industry down and accelerate the renewable energy industry IF the utilities see that as a safe way to avoid and stop emitting GHG's.

Oh it is going to get complicated...and fun...as we all help to accelerate the demise of greenhouse gas emissions...AND WE MUST DO THAT.

Just some thoughts after five days of involvement with this very important voice from Alaska...Debra Williams.

For those of you who missed her, go to her website www.alaskaconservationsolutions.com

If you can still get to hear her...DO SO...AND MAKE SURE EVERYONE YOU KNOW CAN GET THERE AS WELL.

Subject: [EC] FW: Western Greenbrier Co-Generation Plant

Western Greenbrier Co-Generation Plant--See attached fact sheet for more information. Also go to www.wvhighlands.org and click on Suit Aims to Block Greenbrier Plant and The Rest Of The Story.

The WGC plant proponents are mounting a petition campaign to convince
Senator Byrd to help them raise another $25 million, despite the fact that
they are way over budget, out of money and have defaulted on their loans,
which were guaranteed by the WV Development Office.  The $25 million is so
they can borrow $300 million with municipal bonds through Citigroup and get
a grant from the US DOE for over $100 million.  This use of taxpayers funds
for a bad idea must stop.

Letters are better than petitions.  Please write a letter to Senator Byrd
(and you can send copies to Rahall and Manchin).

AND SEND A COPY TO ME (blittle@citynet.net) SO WE WILL KNOW HOW OUR LETTER
CAMPAIGN IS GOING.

AND FORWARD THIS TO ANYONE YOU CAN THINK OF.
