Gawd!  (as Sconyers would say).  It’s daunting to think we can get anywhere going up against these guys.  More and more I’m coming to think that it is only starting from the local level with whatever ban or moratorium we can get that is going to make a difference.  The state is owned by industry, so whatever valiant effort our few good legislators put up is not going very far.  And the federal level is worse.  I just spent 4 or 5 hours over the last couple of days researching the specific legislative references to the exemptions for oil and gas in our federal environmental laws.  It’s hopeless to expect any relief from that quarter.

Great find, Beth!

I found out something about the MIT report.  Now read this, and then think about that investment report!

One of the study participants was John Deutch, also the Chairman of the now controversial Secretary of Energy Advisory Board of the Department of Energy (6 Industry people, 1 Environmental person).  They were in Washington, PA the other day. The Environmental Working Group points out that he is a

"former director of the Central Intelligence Agency, now on the board of Cheniere Energy, Inc., a Houston-based liquified natural gas company that, according to Forbes Magazine online, paid Deutch about $882,000 from 2006 through 2009. During a stint on the board of Schlumberger Ltd., one of the world’s three largest hydraulic fracturing companies, Deutch received about $563,000 in 2006 and 2007, according to Forbes."

Cheniere is poised to be the premiere LNG exporter in the U.S.A, and he is on their board and the advisory board to the Secretary of the DOE.

Also, this interesting MIT study came out recently,
http://web.mit.edu/mitei/research/studies/natural-gas-2011.shtml ,
however, I don't think they were factoring in large exports in their
conclusions.  What do others think?

I want to point out that this would make for an interesting 2 minute
