N.Y. mayor has tried to hurt W.Va. before



New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s “gift” of money to the Sierra Club to use against coal-fired power plants got the reaction it deserves here in West Virginia. He might better have given his money to the research effort to develop economical, clean-coal technology ongoing at WVU, among other places.

Bloomberg is also a leading anti-gun activist. As a matter of fact, he sent his agents from New York in an attempt to buy guns in West Virginia illegally, to artificially generate evidence that New York’s street crime problem is the fault of West Virginia guns.

Our legislature had to pass a law to shut that operation down. Maybe it’s time for our U.S. senators to consider a law requiring that a bond be posted by activists’ lawyers to pay for some of the economic damage they cause with their reckless, ideologically driven lawsuits.

Bloomberg did not consider ramifications



I just read that New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg donated $50 million to the Sierra Club to help in the battle to shut down the coal industry. Here we go again, someone from outside the coalfields trying to ruin the industry that not only supports so many hard-working Americans and their families, but keeps the lights on for all of America.

I wonder if he even considered the economic impact this could have on all coal mining regions and the trickle-down (or should I say up) effect on the country. I doubt that a man who has $50 million to donate cares.

I believe that all coal supporters should boycott New York City! It would take a serious effort on the part of many coal supporters, but maybe an economic impact on his city would get his, or his constituents’, attention.

And to coal companies that have headquarters or other offices in NYC, we’d love to have you move to West Virginia!
