WDTV.COM 5 News: BOATING ACCIDENT UPDATE: 12 Rushed to Hospital, Preliminary Field Report Released

UPDATE 5/26:

West Virginia Division of Natural Resources Law Enforcement has released information from a preliminary field report to 5 News. 

 According to the report,  the boating incident occurred Monday, May 25 at about 8:55 p.m. on Cheat Lake in Monongalia County. One boat was involved, a 23-foot Malibu Wakesetter ski boat that was traveling north on the lake. It was carrying an operator and 11 passengers. The boat collided with the embankment of the eastern shore of Cheat Lake. 

All aboard the boat received injuries and were transported to Mon General and Ruby Memorial hospitals in Morgantown. Three of them were transported by air due to the seriousness of their injuries. Their conditions are unknown, but there are no known fatalities at this time.

 No names or addresses are being released at this time. All aboard the vessel were young adults.

An investigation is underway by Natural Resources Police Officers of the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources. So far, the cause of the crash has not been determined. 

 UPDATE: Twelve people were rushed to the hospital following the boating accident in Cheat Lake, Monday night. Three of those patients are being flown, the other nine are being taken by ambulances.

 According to officials, a boat hit the shore and they described it as if "it was like hitting a brick wall." It happened in the Warm Hollow/Hickory Ridge area. Officials said there was a single tree sticking out but officials can't say if that did play a part in the incident.

 Patients were complaining of back and arm injuries.
