WV Gem and Minerals Show
NOTE: This Saturday and Sunday, September 20th [10 am to 6 pm]
and 21st [11 am to 5 pm], please attend the "Gem and Minerals Show" being
held at the Mt. Chateau Lodge.
This facililty is located at the end of Mt. Chateau Road at the inlet of
Cheat Lake.
From Morgantown, take WV Route 896 across the Old Iron Bridge at Ices
Ferry,
turn right and proceed for about one mile.

NOTICE: Please be aware that the Mt. Chateau facility is owned by the
State of West Virginia
and is the home of the WV Geological and Economic Survey. However,
there is concern
that the current Governor and staff have the sale of this property under
consideration for sale to a
development project, given the significant value of this property on the
Lake. Such a sale would
not likely occur until after the current re-election campaign.
Former Governors have similarly
been willing to dispose of portions of the Mt. Chateau property, as was
done by Governor Arch
Moore.
The Mt. Chateau Lodge building is no longer used as a lodge, however it
serves a vital function
to the State in its present service for the Geological Survey and as
a natural history museum.
This property is ideal for scenic walks. With only a minimum of
effort, it can be
interconnected with the trails in the Coopers Rock State Forest.
Fishing and boating access
is feasible, particularly for kayaks and canoes.
Duane Nichols, President, Cheat Lake Environment & Recreation
Association.
