All,

I apologize for the curt tone of the message that I sent Sep. 28.  I sent it from my iPhone while I was on travel and engaged in other activities.

My purpose in asking for Wilbur Smith's plan was to be able to provide the best support that we can for making the WV statewide bicycle plan.  In a subsequent private communication, Bill Austin clarified that the dialog between Danielle Williams and Wesley Stafford was about the bike route map that the Bicycle Board developed.  The map can be viewed at bikemorgantown.com at the Commuter Map link: http://bikemorgantown.com/route_map.php .  Mr. Stafford, after looking at the map on the bikemorgantown.com website, if you could tell us what you'd need, we'd be happy to provide it.

The Bicycle Board is developing a somewhat comprehensive bicycle plan that includes projects in the areas of engineering, education, enforcement, encouragement, evaluation and equity.  I am not familiar with Wilbur Smith's approach to bicycle planning but a cursory review of the plan that they developed for Berkeley CA:  http://www.ci.berkeley.ca.us/uploadedFiles/Public_Works/Level_3_-_Transportation/berkeley%20bike%20plan.pdf
indicates that they are well aligned with the Bicycle Board and that a collaborative relationship would be productive and synergistic.  The first draft of the Morgantown Bicycle Plan is approximately 80% complete.  At our current rate of progress, it may be ready for review by the key stakeholders in December.  Key stakeholders include the Traffic Commission, City Manager and City Council.  We would like to share it with Wilbur Smith but we should probably get concurrence from these key stakeholders to do so first.

Danielle,

It was a pleasure meeting you at this week’s planning conference.  You mentioned that some work had already been completed in Morgantown and entered in GIS layers. We would be very interested in acquiring that information to include with our plan.  Additionally, if there are any activities or meetings planned by the Morgantown group I would be interested in attending.

Thanks for your help and interest.

Wes
