Bike Board Members,

Yesterday, Governor Tomblin, along with WVDOH and FHWA representatives, awarded the City of Morgantown the "Enhancing Bicycle Signage and Facilities" grant that was applied for during the FY2014 cycle.   See article: Governor Tomblin Announces Transportation Alternatives, Recreational Trails Program Grants

It was funded in the amount of $96,000 with a $24,000 match from the city for a total of $120,000 to:

-Purchase and install 77 Shared Lane Markings and 32 'Bikes May Use Full Lane' signs at prioritized locations

-Purchase and install 12 bicycle parking shelters at prioritized Mountain Line Transit Authority bus stops

Project Short Description:

City-wide providing warning signs, road markings, & bicycle facilities at bus stops. The installation of shared lane markings to be installed on roads in conjunction with "Bicycles May Use Full Lane" signs to warn drivers and empower cyclists on their rights to ride on the roadways. Covered bicycle racks at bus stops will encourage bicycle riders to use other public transportation to get to places beyond using their bicycle.

I'd like to thank Frank Gmiendl, Traci Knabenshue, David Bruffy, Chip Wamsley for their assistance, time, and input with helping me pull together the grant and the City's involvement to support and submit the application.  We couldn't have done it without everyone on the team providing valuable assistance.

Go team!

~Derek
