Carol,

Thanks for reaching out! Glad y'all are chatting about Bike to Work Day. Schedule is loose right now: we'll be out there with coffee and snacks from 7:30-8:30.

In the past, although there have at times been a sizable cohort, the majority of people who attend our event travel all across the city and only a handful travel up the boulevard. The gesture of police presence is flattering but I don't think necessary -- I cycled up the boulevard just a few days ago and the jersey barriers don't push cyclists out into the lane unless they're riding two or more abreast. If you all want to make that happen I can certainly set an exact timeframe, but for now we're loosely planning to leave around 8:20 / 8:30am.

Sweeping the berm before and after the barrier would definitely be appreciated but again, not necessary. Mostly, I think we try to use this event to convince folks that they can ride whenever they want to, not just under special circumstances, you know?

Some people ride the rail trail, some ride the boulevard -- usually depends on where their destination lies.

Thanks again and let me know if you all need us to tighten up the schedule! Again, I don't think police presence is really necessary.

Hey Drew,

Paul asked that I reach out to you to see what type of schedule (if there is one) on Friday morning there will be for Bike to Work Day….particularly as it relates to riding up Mon Blvd.

Reason being, we’ve been asked by Councilor Selin to sweep the berm before Friday.  However, the State DOH is still working on cleaning up a rock spill and there is a section of the berm that is blocked off.  Since this would push bicyclists out into the lane of traffic, Paul was wondering if it would be possible to just arrange for a couple police officers to help and close one lane temporarily.  However, we’d need to know an exact time frame.

It was then stated by someone else in the room that they thought the entire ride would take place on the rail trail and NOT along the boulevard.  Can you help clarify this and what might be needed?

Thank you!
