This is a classic example of the privilege vs the unprivileged that Chairman Drew Gatlin discusses so often at our Bike Board Meetings.

The decision to close the trail was announced literally on the same day that it was closed with no consideration made for commuters or homeless people that use this as their main thoroughfare. There was no signage posted at appropriate areas pointing out that the trail ahead would be closed, nor was any effort made to post a detour route at those same areas, or even have flagman available on the trail, which in this case, would have been the appropriate solution since the real concerns here stems from wanting to avoid trail users having conflicts with heavy equipment during work hours.

This is the equivalent of closing Beechurst and University simultaneously and providing no detours or flagman, which would be the very least that would be expected by motorists. If such a thing ever did happen in this town, you could be absolutely sure there would be a non-stop uproar from motorists, and a call for accountability.

Morgantown can do much better.

FYI...

Some Trail users are ignoring signs and tearing down construction tape across the trail.  Please help spread the work and encourage people to ride elsewhere.

ATTN TRAIL USERS:  The following trail closures will be happening in the next two weeks in order to deal with erosion/culvert issues and replace fencing related to those issues.

August 27th, 28th, 29th - There will be a closure between Valley Crossing and Stanley's Spot Dog Park on the Decker's Creek Trail.
September 4th, 5th, 6th - There will be a closure between Valley Crossing and the bridge near the parking garage toward HRM Park on the Decker's Creek Trail.
We apologize for any inconvenience.  These temporary closures are for the safety of our trail users as we will be operating equipment and unloading materials and supplies on the trail.
