Marilyn,

Thanks for your insights.  Thanks also to Derek.  Unless other BB members want me to press on with the Bike Month proclamation, I'm going to drop it.

Frank,

Doesn't seem worth the effort after the fact.  The city seems like they are very busy.  Hopefully we can get the Walgreens business award presented on time.

FYI, do you think it's worth proclaiming Bike Month after Bike to School Day (tomorrow, May 8), Bike to Work Week (May 14-17), Bike to Work Day (May 17)?

Frank,

City Council has 8 additional proclamations for tonight that have been completed more than a month ago; and the Mayor has made the determination to hold the bike month proc. until the May 21st meeting. Thanks for your understanding- as this was the last one submitted for this meeting and we are still completing paperwork from the election, the Clerk's Office would also benefit from the added time to type and format the requested proc. We are still inundated with work, and again, we thank you for understanding the need to push this back one meeting.

Subject: Bike Month Proclamation

Mr. Mayor,

Would you please proclaim May as Bike Month in Morgantown?  Following is the suggested content for a proclamation.  I have copied Linda Little since she usually creates the proclamation document.

Proclamation
Whereas, Bicycle Friendly Communities attract highly educated residents that create diversified robust local economies;
Whereas, the City of Morgantown has been recognized by the League of American Bicyclists as a Bicycle Friendly Community;
Whereas, the City of Morgantown has a vision that all residents can enjoy bicycling safely and fearlessly anytime, anyplace for any reason;
Whereas, Morgantown has a goal that by 2020, 5% of all trips in and through Morgantown will be made by bicycle;
Whereas, Morgantown is implementing a Greater Morgantown Bicycle Plan to realize its vision and achieve its goal;
Whereas, May is National Bike Month;
Now, Therefore, I, Jim Manilla, Mayor of the City of Morgantown do hereby proclaim the month of May 2013 as Bike Month in the City of Morgantown and encourage all citizen's to support bicycling within our community and to enjoy this activity's many benefits.

For the past 3 years, the Mayor has proclaimed May as Bike Month in Morgantown.  I hope you will do so again this year and perhaps doing so could re-energize us to return our attention to implementing the Greater Morgantown Bicycle Plan that City Council unanimously adopted last May.
