Nick, thanks for sharing.  I recall a comment on one of the issues that surfaces in this article that someone made at a few years ago at public hearing facilitated by the MPO:  Build it and they'll come (single occupant autos!).  I see Montreal is among the cities trying to do something about reducing the auto footprint.  I spent some time there this summer for vacation.  We parked our car and never used it for the entire stay, thanks to the Bixie system.  I felt part of a culture that I have never experienced...hope to visit some of the other cities mentioned some day.
