Dear Trail Friend and fellow SPC Pedestrian-Bicycle Advisory Committee member :

I need your help getting the word out about OpenStreetsPGH, a FREE event I’ve been closely involved in organizing.

OpenStreetsPGH is a collaborative effort of a large group of Pittsburgh lovers and BikePgh.org. We’ve worked hard to bring this to Pittsburgh, so this is a very exciting moment for us. This year we’ll have three events, on the last Sunday of May, June and July, and each event will be street closings almost 4 miles long stretching from downtown through the Strip District and out thru Lawrenceville. We want to attract thousands of people and grow the event in both length and size annually. Will you help?

For info on the events,  the route map and other info, please go to the website:    http://openstreetspgh.org/

Facebook at:
https://www.facebook.com/openstreetspgh?fref=ts

I would ask that you forward this email / info to your membership to help us promote these FREE events.

Thank you for helping us get the word out!

What is an Open Street?

Part of a global movement, an Open Street closes streets to cars temporarily so that runners, walkers, skaters, cyclists, young and old, families, groups, etc...can enjoy city streets freely. Babes in strollers, kids on bikes, trikes, scooters and skate boards. On the last Sunday of May, June and July in 2015, from 8 AM till Noon. Pittsburgh will join this global movement with OpenStreetPGH, an almost 4 mile long stretch of temporary park, stretching from Market Square downtown through the Strip District as well as Lawrenceville. There’ll be lots of room to enjoy whatever activity you prefer and lots of programmed activities so that you can try something new.

By creating our literally Open Street, we aim to promote active and healthy lifestyles for everyone. NOT a race, NO start or finish line, NO entry fee, NO motorized vehicles just come out with your friends, your family, your kids, and enjoy the closed Open Streets of Pittsburgh. Come when you like, anytime during the morning hours.

What do Open Streets do?

Re-imagine city spaces by using spaces normally reserved for cars as places for people, too—it’s a whole new way to look at your city!
Promote healthy living by getting people outside, moving and active
Promote local businesses by connecting people with businesses along city corridors

How can people participate at OpenStreetsPGH?

Any way they like! They can bike from one end to the other and back again in less than an hour … that is if they can resist the urge to stop and take a yoga class, get brunch, or shop at some of the great stores along the route. There will kids activities, program areas, entertainment, food, and adult activities as well. They can walk and enjoy the public art and terrific along the way. They can run over 7 miles (or more), unimpeded by cars. They can shop at local businesses along the way. Or they can take a group class ranging from yoga to zumba to Tai Chi. Go on.  Or just enjoy the scenery and city life around you!

There is no right or wrong way to enjoy OpenStreetsPGH. Anything powered by you goes.
