Thanks, Jonathan.  Chris Fletcher and Ryan Simonton gave excellent presentations.  One commissioner said we don't need bicycle storage/parking until we have bike lanes.  We need to educate the Planning Commission that all roads except interstate highways are bike lanes.  When they come to the workshop, we should ask them if they ride bikes and what keeps them from riding their bikes instead of driving their cars.  And then what they're planning to do to help the City and County to achieve the Long Range Transportation plan and the Comprehensive Plan with regard to bicycling.  I expect that they've all read these plans but I wouldn't be surprised if they forgot about the bicycle parts.  I doubt they've read the Greater Morgantown Bicycle Plan that City Council adopted 4 years ago.  I also doubt that they read our bicycle storage plan or even the proposed ordinance.  It would be nice if for the workshop, we could also show them how other communities have benefited from bicycle parking.

Subject: PC Workshop with Bike Board
Importance: High

PCers:

Good afternoon.  Following on the discussion during the 12 MAY PC meeting, and on behalf of President DeMasters, we have scheduled a workshop for the Planning Commission with the Bike Board for:

THU, 02 JUN 2016 at 6:30 p.m. in the Training Room of the Public Safety Building

This date/time/location was selected, in part, on venue availability and the fact the Bike Board is already scheduled to meet that evening.  We will include this workshop in the legal notice for the month of June that will be published in the Dominion Post next week.  We will also send you additional information next week in case PCers did not retain copies of related materials provided in the May meeting packet.

Please make every effort to attend this workshop so the matter can be fully explored and acted upon during the PC’s June meeting.

Respectfully,

Christopher M. Fletcher, AICP

Director of Development Services

City of Morgantown
