Bicycle Board Members,

The following posted in the Adventure Cycling bi-weekly newsletter might be fun to do for some day in May, National Bike Month.  Note the link to a guide.

OPENING STREETS BY CLOSING THEM
The Alliance for Biking and Walking has joined forces with the Streets
Plan Collaborative to launch the Open Streets Project, which collects
best practices on open streets from across the continent. Open streets
initiatives temporarily close streets to trucks and automobiles,
allowing residents to walk, bike, skate, and utilize car-free roadways
in other active ways. According to the Alliance, "from Los Angeles to
Ottawa, and Missoula to Miami, open streets have become a way for
cities to build community, promote active transportation, and reconnect
neighborhoods divided by traffic." The Open Streets Guide features
examples from 67 initiatives across North America, and serves as a tool
for cities looking to start or grow an open streets initiative of their
own. Read all about it here:
