Bike Board,

Can I get a role call for anyone who would be interested in setting up a safety-oriented booth RE: cycling at Mountaineer Week? The call is to occupy a shared booth on October 24th from 10am-2pm. That's a Tuesday.

Best,
Drew

Good afternoon to some of my favorite Morgantown people!

I wanted to forward you the email I received from Dr. Lisa Costello regarding the Mountaineer Week Safe Community event. I wanted to see if you would be willing to share a booth with me? Last year, I stuck Matthew with my table, but not this year. I think it would be fun to be there.

Any thoughts? Please let me know ASAP and I’ll make sure we have enough room at the table we can share.

Thank you!

Dan

Hi Dan,

Thank you for the email regarding Mountaineer Week Safe Community! We would love for your team to participate in this year's Mountaineer Week Safe Community (we have you to thank for the idea!)

Below is information about the event. Consider this your formal invitation to participate again in the 2017 Mountaineer Week Safe Community as part of WVU’s 70th annual Mountaineer week (information below).  I have also CC'd James Johnson who is helping coordinate the participants this year.

The “Safe Community” event will take place on October 24, 2017 from 10-2 on the 1st floor of the WVU Mountainlair. We hope and plan to feature numerous interactive and informative displays with an overarching focus on safety. Distracted Dave sounds awesome!

Mountaineer Week Background:

Mountaineer Week marks the time when the leaves are turning and the chill has returned to the evening air, setting the stage for a celebration filled with art, unique crafts, and Appalachian culture, heritage, and cuisine. Mountaineer Week is WVU’s way of paying tribute to West Virginia’s heritage and traditions. The number one priority of event planning is to remind and educate WVU students and the community about the culture that has made West Virginia what it is today. We hope to attract thousands of visitors from our campus, community, state and region as we preserve and provide access to cultural and educational resources that bind people and cultures together. For more information visit:http://mountaineerweek. wvu.edu/

2017 Mountaineer Week Health & Wellness Day Background:

Morgantown, along with surrounding municipalities, forms the Greater Morgantown metropolitan area. In 2016, the Greater Morgantown metropolitan area became the 28th community in the United States to be accredited as a safe community through the National Safety Council (learn more by visiting:  http://www. safemorgantownwvu.org/). Our community is the first to have a commitment to safety that involves a University, City, and County! To highlight this accomplishment and provide greater awareness to safety efforts, this year’s Mountaineer Week Health and Wellness Day will again feature the Mountaineer Week Safe Community. This event will be held from 10-2 on the 1st floor of the WVU Mountainlair on October 24, 2017 and will feature an array of interactive and informative displays with an overarching focus on safety. Additional events taking place during Health & Wellness Day are listed below.

Safety Topics to be Addressed:

·         Alcohol Education/High Risk Drinking

·         Blood Drive

·         Distracted Driving

·         Fire Safety

·         Herd Immunity: Flu Vaccinations

·         Nutrition

·         Over the Counter and Prescription drug abuse and disposal

·         Sexual Assault

·         Suicide Prevention

*Additional topics will be considered

Please respond by October 9, 2017 if you/your team is willing to participate. James Johnson will serve as the coordinator of participants, and is cc’d on this email. Please also let us know how much space and additional items may be needed for your display (i.e. table length needs, electric supply, water supply, etc).

As the event nears we will have additional correspondence regarding event logistic as well as marketing. Unless otherwise noted, we will use you as a contact person, but please provide additional information regarding other contact persons/event leaders for your display.

Also, please accept my apologies for my delayed response to your prior email regarding Safety Town. I'm a bit busy at the moment, but would love to get together near the end of October (after this event) to discuss that opportunity more.

Thank you again for your email. We look forward to working together as we strive to educate the WVU community about health, wellness, and safety during Mountaineer Week!
