BB Members,
Does anyone have any idea if WVU or WVU Research Corporation could adopt this?  I didn't look into it much, but have been curious if we could get some of the larger, obvious businesses in town on board?
Thanks,
~Derek

Jonathan,

On the League web site under FAQ's is a scorecard for businesses to check to see if they are ready to apply.  Here is a direct link:  http://www.bikeleague.org/programs/bicyclefriendlyamerica/bicyclefriendlybusiness/pdfs/2010_bfb_scorecard_v2.pdf

Note that one point is what business do to compensate their employees for riding.  I think  that is in direct reference to the IRS allowing business's to comp their employees who ride regularly $20/month as a bike allowance.  It is up to the business to determine who rides "enough" to be eligible and for them to pay the allowed amount.  It is not considered taxable income for either the employer or the employee.  I've also attached the application, as you can't see it in its entirety until you start filling it out.  Could you also please post this to the board so all of our members can see what's involved and possibly identify possible candidates

Thanks,

Chip

Subject: Bicycle Friendly Business

Hi Chip,

I think I may have found a business that qualifies as a BFB.  According to Anne-Marie Borbely-Bartis who works there as a program manager it offers showers and a bike rack.  Ofcourse, we can work with them to bring it up to standards as required.

    • Hi Anne,

At our last Bicycle Board meeting we talked about identifying and creating agents to facilitate Bicycle Friendly Businesses. These are businesses that provide facilities that encourage people to choose bicycling as a form of transportation to get to work. Such businesses may choose to provide showers, secure/sheltered parking for bicycles and incentives. Would you have an interest in helping to realizing this at Keylogic or is something already in the works? Thanks!

      -Jonathan

    • Hi Jonathan! KeyLogic already offers showers and I think they have a bike rack--I'll check. Do let me know about the next Bicycle board meeting, I'd love to attend.
